English through ICT:

 

ICT based teaching and learning is one of the most important aspects of teaching-learning process particularly in this era of fast and technically advancing technology. Teaching and learning without the use of ICT can be very redundant since it’s the need of the generation. The learners will become inactive and un-participatory without the integration of ICT in the lessons apart from many more.

On 19^th October , I taught a lesson on song “ Country Road” to class II using ICT. The facilities used were laptop, internet, phone and camtasia.  During the lesson, I tried video camtasia to teach the song. For the activity part I asked my children to write the lyric of the song in their exercise book. Later asked them to send the song and send a video singing the song in the wechat . The students were very active and energetic. They were excited to sing the song using smart phones. The students realized that learning can happen anywhere anytime even in absence of teacher.  Children realized that smart phones were not just to call or chat, but can be used for educational purpose. 

There are benefits of learning song as they develop speech and language. When children hear the song they are hearing a different range of sounds than they would in normal, everyday speech. They also get chance to practice sounds and words without pressure, no one minds if they make mistakes, and there is no danger of being misunderstood, so they can feel free to give words a go. Its really good to see my students sending the videos through wechat. 

To conclude, ICT plays a pivotal role in transforming educational practices.  ICT not only helps to translate theory to pragmatic experience, but also makes learning more fun and exciting. To reach the un reach students we went door to door visit to meet our children. Few students had problem with the Google classroom settings so we helped them to fix it. I corrected my students work and asked them to do the correction. I also talked about the teenage pregnancy to the girl students.

Integration of ICT

The integration of ICT in the school practice has not to do with simple improvements of the traditional instruction but to a radically new pedagogy; shift from the traditional instruction model of knowledge transmitting towards autonomous, active, and collaborative learning through students’ engagement in ICT-based learning environments and shared learning resources. Information communication technology (ICT) is becoming increasingly important in our daily lives and in our educational system. There is a growing demand on educational institutions to use ICT to teach the skills and knowledge students need for the digital age. The adoption and integration of ICT into teaching and learning environment provides more opportunities for teachers and students to work better in a globalised digital age. ICT has the potential to play an increasingly important role in education be it in classroom, administration and online instruction or other activities. There is tremendous potential for teachers and students to harness the power of ICT to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom.  It provides opportunities for greater flexibility, interactivity and accessibility for engaging teaching and learning at the individual, group and societal levels. 

Children being digital natives they don't enjoy the old traditional lecture method of teaching. So, to motivate the learners, use of technology has become a prime method in the classrooms. More over  as we are living in competitive world, the world invites people with more skilled and knowledgeable people. These 21st century skills are essential in order to be successful in this day and age.

Due to Covid-19 we are continuing teaching online classes. On 14th September I taught class II English about -pl sound. I have integrated ICT in my lesson. I searched the relevant video lesson to teach -pl sound. I uploaded the video in the wechat forum and asked them to learn the -pl sound. So that they can get the clear concepts. Next I made a video to teach the -pl sound by displaying the chart and explaining on how to go about the activity. I asked them to fill in the blanks with -pl sound and next to fill in the blanks using the above words on workbook page 23. Later on children uploaded their works in wechat, whatsapp and messenger.

However some children had problem in sending their work because their wechat got currupted and again I had to call respective parents. I even visited some of the villages to correct students work and overall my lesson went well. There was increase in online classes. If the students don't upload their work within given time then I called their parents and let the children participate and try to find the solution. Yes, there is always a net fluctuation.

Some challenges faced during on line classes

  Some challenges faced during online classes are as follows:

* Parents having no smart phones.

* Network problems where children are unable to watch video lessons.

* One phone shared by many children.

* Sometimes shortage of data.

* Children play online games while parents are working in the field.

ICT Integration In The Class

IMPORTANCE OF ICT IN THE CLASS

School was closed due to first Covid -19 case on 5th of March 2020. For two weeks we waited for the school to start but till now we couldn't start the school but we are doing on line teaching. As I teach class II English I use wechat as the means of teaching and learning. ICT in education improves engagement and knowledge retention. When ICT is integrated into the lessons, students become more engaged in their works. This is because technology provides different opportunities to make it more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different ways.

ICT promotes learner engagement as learners choose what to learn at their own pace and work on real life situations problems as our country is facing now. Its really helpful and children are kept engaged in their work of learning.On 3rd August I taught syllable, so I used phone to give the works in the wechat. I clicked the image of the syllables with examples and taught.Through video taught the syllables with the examples.  Children were asked to write the spelling for given pictures and count the syallables. 

In second activity children are asked to read the words in the boxes. Count the syllable(s) and write in their notebook. Explained about how to go about in the voice message.

After students finished their work let them post their work in the personal wechat and gave comments according to their work. If they made mistake let them rewrite and post again.ICT is the pillars for learning. It can improve the quality of human life because it can be used as learning and education media.As our country is locked down we use various means of media to get connected to our children.
